After the Bison traffic jam, I headed back to the
campground, hoping to run into some of my friends from the previous evening.
As I pulled in, I saw Chris and Brooke, and I think they were as happy to see
me as I was to see them. As I have learned on this trip, while you meet
amazing people everyday, finding people that you have enough in common with to
hang out and spend time with can be a rare thing. The three of us sat
around all night, discussing all the important things you talk about while in
the wilderness. Sort of like sitting around the hallway in the dorms
again. Brooke wanted to interview me for some sort of photodocumentary
journal thing she is thinking about doing as a book someday. Once she
started aiming the camera at me, I had to get my cameras and return the
favor....
As we were all headed roughly in the same
direction and going to similar places, we talked about meeting up in Glacier
National Park in a few weeks to do some backcountry hiking, what with the
grizzlies and all, hiking in a group is much safer. In a group, you can
always push someone down and then run for it, so you always want to be with
someone slower than you when in Bear country. It helps if you put an
open container of honey in their backpack too.
The next day they were headed out, so we firmed up
our plans to hang out in Glacier, we would try to coordinate through email,
and using the voicemail on my cell phone. They would leave a message,
and I would change my greeting to acknowledge, and they would confirm with
another voicemail.
They packed up and headed out, and I was sad to
see them go....
